November 4, 2014

Yesterday (day six being admintted to LVHN), I met with the medical surgeon on my diagnosis of Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome. Though the initial tone of the conversation wasn't the best, I walked out of it (rather, the doctor walked out) with a better understanding of where I am now what we are looking at for the days/weeks/possibly months to come.

I felt that the doctor was very snappy with me when I would ask questions around timing. He felt I was not understanding the severity and just wanted to snap my fingers and be better. I explained that I did understand, but would also like some basic timelines (eg nothing at all to eat or drink for another week or would things be re-introduced sooner?)

It looks like the next 'moving' x-ray test will come early next week, which should give a better understanding on what to expect as far as my stomache size recovery and whether or not surgery (old-school style bypass) my be required. Possibly today, he will allow for me to to try some ice chips a/o a few sips of water... Woo hoo!

This morning I also had the pleasure of the engie tube re-inserted. It decided to come undone and work it's way out over night. :-( The nurses who administered the procedure this morning seemed to have a much better, less intrusive process then what I went through on Sunday when it was initially inserted. I was very impressed with them, as they were impressed with how well I handled the process. WIN-WIN-SCORE!

Another day filled with loved ones (blood and not- mostly not, of course) visiting. Happy that all of my friends and family are meshing so well as my many worlds collide. I did decide it was time to come out to my Dad. Not that I really classify myself as gay or straight anymore (wonder what you call being married to your job? I guess it's just normal for this day and age. LOL. But I told hime, and he already knoew, of course). I just figured it would be better us talking about it one-on-one then it coming to light by one of my friends visiting. Went well (I think). Then I went on a little shopping spree  on Amazon. Hey, if Im not going to spend money on food, might as well buy some cool stuff!

I did get to leave the ICU last night and am in a regular room again, which is is awesome! Got to spend my first few hours in my new room hanging out with Carissa, Kimmy and Uncle Paul. Great time! Got to hear about the great "Purple Haze" exploration of Graham Wright. Will hear more tomorrow, after Carissa gets filled in by Gregor.  Once they left, I started the first season of The Big Bang Theory.... Funny show! Also, caught up on some email and sent a message to Sheik and Alyson asking that I return to work tomorrow on a half-day basis, to help manage boredom during the day (and night). Alyson, replied from vacation shortly after that she was onboard. Nothing from Chris yet.

Spoke with Mel on the phone a bit, explaining what was going on. Also found out that S2P was being disbanded and she and Rose are returning to IT!

Well, anyway, this is my first blog entry and it wasn't that bad. Let's see if I can keep it going! Until next time.....
